An overload relay is an additional device for a contactor and can also make a protective one from a conventional switching product.
If an overcurrent occurs in the circuit, then thermal protection is triggered and the faulty section of the circuit is turned off. The difference between an overload relay and a circuit breaker is the ability to fine tune to a specific load. Most often, thermal relays are used in control circuits of electric motors, since almost all engine faults do not lead to a short circuit, which is easily blocked by a circuit breaker, but lead to a significant increase in currents. The setting range of currents from 0.4 to 93 amperes allows you to choose a protection device for almost any electric motor. The presence of two pairs of auxiliary contacts, normally closed and normally open, greatly facilitates the design of control circuits. These contacts can be used for both self - diagnosis of the device and for command circuits.
The overload relay is installed on the KME contactor and has three types of housing sizes. When ordering this type of equipment, it is necessary to use the correspondence tables so that the copper busbars of the relay fit exactly into the clamping contacts of the KME.
